Heavy Traffic on North Luzon Expressway Marilao Bridge
MANILA, Philippines — A heavy volume of traffic has been reported on the North Luzon Expressway Marilao Bridge, specifically from Torres Bugallon Bridge heading northbound as of Sunday afternoon, local sources said. Vehicles are moving slowly, averaging just 20 to 30 kilometers per hour along this stretch.
According to updates from the North Luzon Expressway Corporation at 4:15 p.m., congestion remains heavy on the northbound lanes near Marilao Bridge, while the Balintawak toll plaza experiences only light traffic.
Lane Closures and Ongoing Repairs
The leftmost and middle lanes (lanes 1 and 2) on the northbound side of Marilao Bridge have been closed for safety repair works from midnight Sunday until 11:59 p.m. the same day. This closure follows damage caused last Wednesday when an 18-wheel cargo truck struck the underside of the bridge, causing one of its beams to fall onto a passing vehicle. Tragically, one passenger in that vehicle lost their life.
In response, toll collection was suspended on the northbound route of the North Luzon Expressway from Balintawak to Meycauayan City, Bulacan. This suspension took effect from 1 a.m. on June 22 until midnight on June 23, following orders from the Department of Transportation while repairs continue.
Repeated Damage and Repair Efforts
This incident marks the second time this year that the Marilao Bridge, which has a vertical clearance of just 4.27 meters, has been damaged. Previous repairs lasted two weeks. Local leaders noted the importance of completing these repairs swiftly to ease the traffic congestion affecting thousands of motorists daily.
