High Chance Low Pressure Area Development Monitored
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported a low-pressure area (LPA) with a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. This LPA is currently located outside the Philippine area of responsibility, signaling the need for close monitoring by local authorities and residents.
According to sources, LPA 6e was detected approximately 2,350 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon as of Sunday afternoon. The state weather bureau emphasized the importance of tracking this system given its potential to intensify and affect weather conditions in the coming days.
Weather Patterns Affecting the Philippines
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, continues to influence weather over Central and Southern Luzon, as well as the western parts of Visayas and Mindanao. This brings cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to these regions. Local leaders noted that habagat’s effects are widespread, impacting Metro Manila, Calabarzon provinces, and areas such as Soccsksargen, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
In addition to habagat, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affects the eastern part of Mindanao. This meteorological phenomenon causes cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, particularly over the Davao region and Surigao del Sur. These weather conditions are expected to persist, with possible moderate to heavy rains leading to localized flooding.
Regions Under Weather Watch
The habagat also brings partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the Bicol region, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro region, and other parts of Central Luzon and Mimaropa. The rest of the country experiences partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Forecasters warned residents to remain vigilant due to the risk of flash floods, landslides, and severe thunderstorms resulting from these weather systems. Authorities advise taking necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone and mountainous areas.
