Highest Voter Turnout Recorded in Eleksyon 2025 Midterm Elections

Record Voter Turnout in Eleksyon 2025

More than 55 million Filipinos, representing 81.65% of all registered voters, participated in Eleksyon 2025. This marks the highest voter turnout percentage ever recorded in the country’s midterm elections. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) highlighted this historic achievement, emphasizing the strong voter engagement nationwide.

“Ang total number of voters who actually voted is 81.65% — highest in the history of the elections,” stated the poll chief during a press briefing. He expressed pride in this milestone, noting that such a turnout is particularly remarkable for a midterm election.

Youth Engagement Boosts Voter Participation

Data from Comelec reveals that out of 68.4 million registered voters, 55.87 million cast their ballots on May 12, 2025. This turnout surpasses the previous record of 75.90% in 2019. While the final figures are still to be confirmed after canvassing, election officials attribute the high turnout primarily to youth voters.

“Base sa initial nating pagtingin talagang dumagsa ang kabataan sa pagboto nitong nakaraang 2022 elections. Ang boses nila, gusto ng sambayanan na mapakinggan…Naniniwala ako the vote of the youth matters,” the poll chief said, underscoring the critical role young Filipinos played in shaping the outcome.

Comelec’s Visibility and Outreach

Efforts to reach out and engage voters also contributed to this turnout. “Siguro maganda rin na leading to the elections, sana ma-credit lang ng konti, naging visible ang Comelec. Mula registration, ikot tayo nang ikot. Siguro na-challenge na ang mga kabataan sa kakakulit natin,” he added. This persistent visibility and encouragement helped motivate many first-time and young voters to participate.

Voter Turnout Remains High Despite Challenges

The Commission believes that when voters are provided with clear principles and relevant issues, they are more likely to participate. “I honestly believe basta mabigyan mo lang ng tamang prinsipyo at issue ang mga kababayan natin, they will go to the polls,” the election official remarked.

For the upcoming May 2025 elections, the total number of registered voters stands at nearly 70 million, with over 68 million registered in the Philippines and more than one million overseas voters ready to cast their ballots.

Looking Ahead to Future Elections

The outstanding voter turnout in Eleksyon 2025 reflects a positive trend in democratic participation across the Philippines. This momentum, driven especially by the youth, could signal increased political engagement in future polls.
