House Bill Seeks Salary Grade Upgrade for Teachers
Bohol 2nd District Rep. Maria Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado has introduced House Bill No. 2801, aiming to raise the basic salary of public school teachers from Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 15. This proposed salary grade upgrade reflects a growing recognition of teachers’ critical role in nation-building and the need to provide them with fair compensation.
Filed on August 4, 2025, the bill emphasizes the importance of just pay for teachers, who dedicate themselves to shaping the future of the country. The keyphrase “salary grade upgrade for teachers” highlights the core purpose of this legislation: to provide better financial support for educators.
Honoring Teachers’ Vital Role and Sacrifices
In her explanatory statement, Aumentado underscored that teaching forms the foundation of every profession and deserves utmost respect and backing. “Teaching is the profession that creates all other professions and is considered the noblest profession. Yet, many of our public school teachers continue to face financial struggles due to inadequate compensation for their hard work and sacrifices,” she said.
She further explained that teachers’ duties extend far beyond classroom hours. “Their work does not end within the four walls of the classroom. Many bring home tasks to complete student assessments and documentation. Teachers consistently give more of themselves than is required, all in the name of shaping the future of our children,” Aumentado added.
Current Salary and Proposed Increase
Presently, entry-level public school teachers earn a monthly wage under Salary Grade 11, approximately ₱27,000. If the bill is enacted, their pay would increase to Salary Grade 15, about ₱36,000 per month. This significant raise aims to boost teachers’ morale and improve their quality of life.
“This measure will boost the morale and self-esteem of our silent heroes—our public school teachers. It ensures just compensation for the hard work they do in molding our youth and offers them a better standard of living for themselves and their families,” Aumentado explained.
Benefits Beyond Salary
In addition to improving teachers’ socio-economic status, the salary grade upgrade is expected to promote their professional growth. It may also encourage more qualified individuals to join and remain in the teaching profession, addressing teacher shortages and enhancing educational quality nationwide.
Aumentado expressed hope for widespread support from her fellow lawmakers. She stressed that investing in teachers is truly investing in the nation’s future.
