House Elects Committee Chairpersons to Strengthen Leadership
MANILA, Philippines — As the new Congress session progresses, the House of Representatives has appointed key lawmakers as committee chairpersons. Among them, Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro, a member of the impeachment prosecution team, was chosen to lead the House committee on justice. This move highlights the importance of strengthening the legislative process through capable leadership.
During Wednesday’s session, House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos nominated several lawmakers to head various panels. In addition to the committee chairpersons, Cebu City 2nd District Rep. Eduardo Rama was elected deputy majority leader. Meanwhile, Bataan 1st District Rep. Roman Antonino III, Taguig-Pateros Rep. Ricardo Cruz Jr., and Biñan City Rep. Walfredo Dimaguila Jr. were appointed assistant majority leaders. These roles will support the smooth operation of the House’s legislative agenda.
Remaining Committees Still Await Leadership
Despite the progress, several standing committees still lack chairpersons. These include key areas such as agrarian reform, disaster resilience, ecology, and health. Other committees awaiting leaders involve indigenous cultural communities, local government, Mindanao affairs, Muslim affairs, and overseas workers’ concerns.
Additional committees without chairs are focused on people’s participation, population and family relations, poverty alleviation, public accounts, senior citizens, social services, suffrage and electoral reforms, sustainable development goals, veterans affairs, Visayas development, welfare of children, and women and gender equality.
