The House of Representatives recently honored Philippine showbiz icons Nora Aunor and Pilita Corrales with official resolutions. These tributes, embodied in House Resolution Nos. 2288 and 2289, were adopted during the House’s plenary session after a four-month break. Rising from humble roots in Iriga, Camarines Sur, Aunor’s journey to stardom inspired many. She featured in over 170 films and won numerous awards locally and internationally.
Her career began at age 14 when she won the prestigious “Tawag ng Tanghalan” singing contest, a milestone that propelled her into the spotlight. Over the years, she earned Best Actress awards from bodies such as the FAMAS Hall of Fame, the Cairo International Film Festival, and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Corrales was a trailblazing singer, actress, and television personality celebrated for her powerful vocal performances. She made history as the first Filipino to top Billboard’s Hits of the World chart.
Her timeless hit “A Million Thanks to You” became a beloved anthem in many Filipino households. Over her prolific career, she released 135 albums in multiple languages including English, Filipino, Spanish, and Cebuano. Her victory at the inaugural Tokyo Music Festival in 1972 earned her the prestigious title of Asia’s Queen of Songs.
The resolution described Corrales as a cultural icon whose passion for music, love for her family, and devotion to the Philippines defined her remarkable career.
