The House of Representatives has taken swift action to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision concerning the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte. On Monday, the House formally filed a motion for reconsideration, signaling their intent to challenge the court’s verdict.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez confirmed that the motion was submitted through the Office of the Solicitor General. It seeks to reverse the Supreme Court ruling that declared the fourth impeachment complaint against Duterte unconstitutional. Police Officers Suspended Amid Missing Sabungeros Case

In a related development, twelve police officers connected to the disappearance of several sabungeros—cockfighting enthusiasts—have been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension. This decision was announced by National Police Commission Vice Chairperson Rafael Calinisan.

Authorities explained that the suspension aims to protect witnesses and maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation. This step reflects the seriousness with which officials are treating the mysterious case.

Possible Human Remains Found in Taal Lake

Adding urgency to the situation, Philippine National Police officials reported the discovery of possible human remains along with clothing items in Taal Lake, Batangas. The items were found during the search for the missing sabungeros in the area.

PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo stated that these remains will undergo DNA cross-matching with samples taken from relatives of the missing individuals. This forensic process is crucial to establish identities and provide closure to affected families.

Senate to Publish Full Budget Process Online

In response to public demand for transparency, the Senate has announced it will publish the complete budget process on the government’s official website. This will include all agency budget requests and related documents.

Department of Agriculture Proposes Rice Import Restrictions

The Department of Agriculture plans to advise President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to temporarily stop rice imports and raise tariffs on imported rice. This recommendation is intended to safeguard local farmers and stabilize the domestic rice market.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed that the Cabinet will discuss this pressing issue during the President’s upcoming state visit to India from August 4 to 8. The government’s approach signals a protective stance towards Filipino agricultural interests.
