House of Representatives Upholds Religious Freedoms in Eid

House of Representatives Embraces Religious Freedoms

The House of Representatives remains steadfast in upholding religious freedoms and promoting policies that protect diversity and inclusion. On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, a deeply revered Islamic holiday, House Speaker Martin Romualdez reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to these principles.

“As Speaker of the House, I reaffirm the commitment of Congress to support policies that honor diversity and uphold religious freedoms. Our unity as a nation is strengthened by the respect we show for one another’s traditions and expressions of faith,” Romualdez shared during the Feast of Sacrifice observance.

Meaning Behind Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha commemorates the profound faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of submission to God’s command. The celebration involves prayers, festive meals, and the tradition of sharing meat with family, friends, and those in need.

Romualdez, who represents Leyte’s 1st district, highlighted that this sacred occasion offers a moment for reflection not only on faith and obedience but also on the responsibility of leaders to protect the freedoms that allow every Filipino to practice their beliefs without fear or discrimination.

Unity and Values in Diversity

“Today, we join our Muslim brothers and sisters across the Philippines and the world in commemorating Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice – one of the most sacred celebrations in Islam,” the Speaker said.

He added, “Eid al-Adha reminds us of the power of obedience to a higher calling, the importance of selflessness, and the strength found in unity. These values resonate beyond the Islamic tradition and are shared across all faiths and cultures. They unite us as a people, regardless of belief or background.”

Leadership Lessons from Eid al-Adha

The Speaker emphasized that the story behind Eid al-Adha calls on public officials to practice servant leadership and pursue justice in their duties.

“The story of Eid al-Adha speaks of sacrifice born from trust and devotion. Today, this message is just as relevant. It urges all of us in government and society to serve sincerely, uphold justice, and always act in the best interest of the people we represent,” Romualdez said.

“Ang Eid al-Adha ay isang paalala ng pananampalataya, paninindigan at sakripisyo. Sa pagsasabuhay ng diwa ng kapistahang ito, nawa’y maging mas matatag ang ating pagkakaisa bilang isang sambayanan,” he added.

Inspiring Compassion and Inclusion

Romualdez also encouraged Filipinos to draw inspiration from Eid al-Adha to build a more compassionate and inclusive nation.

“Let this celebration inspire us to work harder for peace, inclusivity, and a government that listens to every voice, especially those often unheard. The lessons of this sacred day encourage us to act with compassion, clarity, and courage,” said the House leader.
