House Quad-Committee Uncovers Deep National Conspiracy
Congresswoman-elect Leila de Lima of the Mamamayang Liberal Party-list praised the House quad-committee for fulfilling its critical mandate. The quad-committee, or quad-comm, chaired by Surigao del Norte 2nd district Representative Robert Ace Barbers, presented its final report during the plenary session on the evening of June 10.
“The quad-comm investigation uncovered a conspiracy to destroy our country with the vices of gambling, illegal drugs, and corruption of public officials by Chinese mafias and Filipino traitors,” De Lima, a former senator, said in a Facebook post. She added, “For this alone, the quad-comm hearings serve as a milestone in legislative inquiries.”
Extensive Probe into Philippine Offshore Gaming and More
Since August 2024, the House quad-committee has been investigating the intertwined issues involving Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), extrajudicial killings (EJKs), money laundering, illegal drugs, and the controversial drug war initiated under former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The multi-sector panel concluded its exhaustive probe on June 9 after conducting 15 marathon hearings. These sessions thoroughly examined the allegations surrounding the involvement of Chinese syndicates and local collaborators in perpetuating gambling and drug-related corruption.
High-Profile Testimonies and Public Attention
Among the most notable moments was the testimony of former President Rodrigo Duterte himself. His attendance at the hearings drew massive public interest, with the House of Representatives’ official livestream garnering 1.9 million viewers.
Local leaders and sources noted that the quad-committee’s work has shed light on the systemic challenges facing the nation. They also emphasized the importance of continuing such legislative inquiries to protect the country’s integrity.
