House Speaker Condemns Killing of Committee Official
House Speaker Martin Romualdez has voiced deep outrage over the killing of a House of Representatives committee official. The tragic incident, which occurred over the weekend, involved Director Mauricio “Morrie” Pulhin, the chief of technical staff of the Committee on Ways and Means.
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic death of Director [Pulhin],” Romualdez said in an official statement. “We condemn this brutal act of violence in the strongest possible terms.”
A Dedicated Public Servant Mourned
Romualdez, who leads the 306-member House, shared that the loss has left both Pulhin’s family and the wider community in shock and grief. He described Pulhin as a long-serving, dedicated public servant whose professionalism and integrity earned him respect across the board.
“His quiet commitment to his work made him stand out among his peers and superiors,” Romualdez noted.
Call for Thorough Investigation
While the motive behind this heinous crime remains unclear, Romualdez urged the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and other law enforcement bodies to conduct a swift and impartial probe.
“All angles must be explored—including, but not limited to, his professional affiliations—so that truth and justice may prevail,” he emphasized.
The Speaker firmly stated, “This crime must not go unanswered. Justice must prevail.”
Support for the Family and Congressional Community
Romualdez extended heartfelt condolences to Pulhin’s family, offering support during their unimaginable pain. “We stand with you and will do everything to ensure those responsible—whether gunmen or masterminds—are brought to justice.”
He also addressed the House Secretariat and broader congressional family, sharing in their grief and anger. “Let us channel these feelings into vigilance, unity, and an unwavering demand for justice—not only for Director Pulhin but for every Filipino victim of senseless violence,” he added.
