New House Spokesperson Commits to Truthful Public Engagement
Princess Abante, the newly appointed spokesperson for the House of Representatives, has set a clear direction for her role. On Tuesday, May 27, she promised to maintain honesty in communications without fueling unnecessary controversies. Her main goal is to promote transparency and trust through truthful information.
Abante emphasized the importance of addressing misinformation head-on. “We are here to inform, not to inflame,” she said. She added, “Pero kung kailangan pong punahin ang mga mali, kung kailangang itama ang kumakalat na fake news para i-discredit ang Kamara o mga miyembro nito, makakaasa po kayo na gagawin namin ito.” This shows her determination to correct falsehoods that could harm the reputation of the House or its members.
Building Public Understanding Beyond Legislation
The spokesperson highlighted that her duties go beyond simply issuing statements. She explained that educating the public about new laws is equally important. “Our work does not end with passing laws. It continues with how we explain those laws to the people who are meant to benefit from them,” Abante said.
She acknowledged the challenge of restoring public trust, noting that it is no longer given by default but must be earned daily through honesty and facts. “We are entering a time when public trust is no longer given. It must be earned daily, through facts and through honesty. That is what this role demands and that is what I intend to uphold,” she affirmed.
Addressing Misinformation with Clarity and Purpose
Abante stressed that the House cannot remain silent while false information spreads rapidly. She promised to communicate clearly and purposefully, without hesitation, to ensure that truth prevails.
As the daughter of a former Manila district representative, she views her new role as both an honor and a responsibility. Her commitment to truthful public engagement reflects a broader effort to improve how the House connects with Filipino citizens.
