Hundreds Remain Stranded at Ports Nationwide
Hundreds of travelers continue to be stranded at various ports across the Philippines due to bad weather conditions, local authorities said. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that as of early Monday morning, 278 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers are unable to proceed with their journeys.
Alongside the stranded people, the PCG noted that 105 rolling cargoes and 14 vessels also remain stuck at 23 ports nationwide. Additionally, 31 vessels and 67 motorbancas are currently taking shelter from rough seas caused by the persistent southwest monsoon.
Eastern Visayas Most Affected by Stranded Passengers and Cargo
The region of Eastern Visayas has the highest number of stranded passengers, with 210 individuals waiting for safer travel conditions. This area also hosts 105 cargo items and one vessel seeking shelter due to the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, the Cavite Gateway Terminal has the largest concentration of motorbancas taking refuge, with 50 boats docked to avoid the rough waters, according to PCG data.
Southwest Monsoon Continues to Affect Travel
Meteorologists confirm that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, remains active and is bringing heavy rains to many parts of the country. This weather pattern has caused disruptions in sea travel and is expected to persist for the coming days.
Travelers are advised to monitor weather updates and coordinate with local authorities before planning their trips. The PCG continues to prioritize safety by temporarily suspending trips when conditions become hazardous.
