Hwang Jung-eum’s Divorce Lawsuit Officially Finalized
Korean actress Hwang Jung-eum has officially finalized her divorce lawsuit from her husband, businessman and golfer Lee Young-don. The couple, who tied the knot in February 2016, share two sons. This marks the second time the actress has filed for divorce, with the first case in 2020 being withdrawn after they reconciled. However, she filed for divorce again in February 2024, leading to the recent finalization.
Recognized for her notable roles in popular dramas like “High Kick Through the Roof,” “Kill Me, Heal Me,” “She Was Pretty,” and “Endless Love,” Hwang Jung-eum’s personal life has attracted significant attention alongside her career.
Details from the Agency and Legal Proceedings
Her agency, Y.One Entertainment, released a statement confirming the divorce lawsuit’s amicable conclusion as of May 26, 2025, following the family court’s mediation decision. They clarified that the divorce is now legally established.
Regarding recent reports about a real estate seizure on May 23, the agency explained it was a routine measure to preserve joint property during the divorce proceedings. “As the divorce suit is currently being finalized, the seizure will all be lifted. We ask for your deep understanding as we were unable to provide a detailed explanation as the matter was reported in the news right before the end of the suit,” the statement said.
The agency also apologized for any public concern caused by the actress’s private divorce process and pledged to resolve the remaining related lawsuits promptly.
Legal and Financial Challenges Amid Divorce Lawsuit
Local reports indicate that on May 23, a steel processing and sales company owned by Lee Young-don filed a lawsuit demanding the return of a loan amounting to 157 million won (approximately $115,000). The court accepted the company’s request to attach Hwang Jung-eum’s property as part of the case.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum faces separate charges involving the embezzlement of 4.34 billion won (around $3 million) from her own company. She admitted to using the funds to invest in cryptocurrency.
Despite these ongoing legal and financial issues, the finalization of her divorce lawsuit marks a significant development in her personal life. She and her family continue to navigate the challenges ahead.
