Authorities Seize Illegal LPG Products Worth P6.5 Million
MANILA, Philippines — Authorities recently confiscated alleged illegal liquified petroleum gas (LPG) products valued at P6.5 million during a targeted operation in Angeles City. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) led the raid that resulted in the arrest of two suspects connected to the unlawful activity.
The operation occurred at a refining plant located in Barangay Cuayan last Tuesday, according to a statement released by the CIDG on Thursday. This incident highlights ongoing efforts to combat the illegal LPG trade in the region.
Suspects Refilled LPG Without Permission
Police revealed that the arrested individuals were allegedly refilling Regasco-branded LPG cylinders without authorization from the rightful owner. Furthermore, the suspects reportedly repainted the tanks to conceal the original Regasco markings before selling the refilled products.
Authorities also recovered several items used in the illegal operation, including an LPG storage tank, a lorry tank, weighing scales, refilling equipment, LPG cylinders, and related sales receipts. These tools were crucial in facilitating the unlawful refilling and distribution process.
Legal Charges Filed Against Suspects
The two individuals, identified only as “Anthony” and “Ruel,” were charged before the National Prosecution Service. They face violations of Republic Act 623, as amended by RA 5700, which governs the use of properly marked containers, and Republic Act 8293, the Intellectual Property Code.
Local leaders noted that this crackdown serves as a warning to those participating in similar illicit activities. Authorities continue to monitor and investigate illegal LPG operations to protect consumers and ensure safety standards.
