Ilocos Norte Elects New Governor and Vice Governor
Cecilia Araneta Marcos was officially proclaimed as the new governor of Ilocos Norte after winning the Eleksyon 2025. She secured 299,037 votes, surpassing independent candidate Joy Butay. This victory marks a significant moment in the province’s political landscape.
In her acceptance statement, Araneta Marcos expressed deep honor in taking on the role. She warmly thanked everyone who supported and placed their trust in her leadership. “As we take pride in leading our beloved province of Ilocos Norte, I commit myself to continue the good governance and meaningful programs that Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc has started,” she declared.
Commitment to Continuing Legacy
Moreover, she pledged to carry on the legacy of her late husband, former Board Member Mariano Nonong Marcos II, with the same passion and dedication he showed toward Ilocos Norte. “I will also carry forward the hopes and dreams of my late husband, then Board Member Mariano Nonong Marcos II, with the same love and dedication he had for our province,” Araneta Marcos added.
Cecilia Araneta Marcos is not only the wife of the former vice governor Mariano Marcos II but also a cousin of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., highlighting the family’s continued involvement in regional leadership.
Vice Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc Re-elected Unopposed
Meanwhile, Matthew Marcos Manotoc, who ran unopposed, was proclaimed as vice governor by the Provincial Board of Canvassers after receiving 313,943 votes. He is the son of incumbent Senator Imee Marcos.
Matthew expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Ilokano community and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the province’s progress. His dedication aims to build upon ongoing efforts toward a more prosperous Ilocos Norte.
