Iloilo City Police Seize P16 Million Illegal Drugs in August
In a major crackdown, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) seized close to P16 million worth of illegal drugs during August. The operations led to the arrest of 83 drug suspects across the city, demonstrating the authorities’ strong resolve to combat the drug menace.
Significant Drug Seizures and Arrests
According to a report released by local officials, 60 police operations conducted throughout Iloilo City resulted in the confiscation of approximately 2.3 kilograms of suspected shabu. The total estimated street value of these drugs reached nearly P15.9 million.
Among those arrested, 35 were identified as high-value targets, while the remaining 48 were street-level individuals involved in illegal drug activities. Community members noted that this strategic approach targets both major suppliers and street dealers to disrupt the drug trade effectively.
Regional Police Contribution and Comparison to Previous Month
The Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit played a crucial role by seizing the largest portion of shabu—821.86 grams valued at P5.58 million. Their efforts significantly contributed to the overall haul during the month.
Officials reported that the August accomplishments surpassed the previous month’s results, where 2.04 kilograms of shabu worth over P13.89 million were confiscated in 72 operations. This upward trend highlights intensified efforts and improved coordination among law enforcement units.
Unified Efforts Against Illegal Drugs
ICPO Director Col. Kim Legada emphasized the importance of collaboration in the fight against illegal drugs. “These accomplishments highlight the unified efforts of our police and the community against illegal drugs. With everyone’s commitment and cooperation, we will address this menace and win this war,” he stated.
Local leaders echoed the call for continued vigilance and partnership between authorities and residents to sustain progress in eliminating drug-related crimes in Iloilo City.
