Iloilo Defends Crown in Parada ng Kalayaan 2025
ILOILO CITY – The province of Iloilo is gearing up to defend its crown in the Parada ng Kalayaan during the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration on June 12 in Manila. The parade’s float once again highlights a significant moment in history, showcasing the Cry of Santa Barbara, a defining event when Ilonggos took up arms against colonial forces despite initially defending the Spaniards.
This year, the float has already beaten nine other local government units in the competition, reaffirming Iloilo’s strong presence in the annual event. The exact four word keyphrase “Parada ng Kalayaan 2025” is at the heart of the celebration, capturing the spirit of freedom and pride.
New Festival Performance Represents Iloilo
Unlike last year, there will be no performance from the Kahilawayan Festival of Santa Barbara town, where the Philippine flag was believed to have been raised for the first time outside Luzon in November 1898. Instead, the Tultugan Festival from Maasin town will represent Iloilo in the festival performance competition.
The Tultugan Festival celebrates Maasin’s rich heritage and culture, focusing on its flourishing bamboo industry. This shift in representation brings fresh energy to Iloilo’s participation and spotlights another vibrant local tradition.
Strong Leadership and Community Spirit
Governor Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. is leading Iloilo’s delegation, accompanied by key provincial department heads who are all ready to showcase the province’s pride in the national celebration. Joining them is Maasin Mayor Francis “Ansing” Amboy, emphasizing the close collaboration between the province and its municipalities.
Local leaders noted that the parade and festival performances are not just competitions but also a way to honor Iloilo’s rich history and cultural legacy. The province’s dedication is evident in their well-crafted float and spirited festival presentation.
