Jail Officer in Iloilo Faces New Charges
ILOILO CITY – An officer from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is now under increased scrutiny as he faces additional administrative charges. Reports indicate that the jail officer tested positive for illegal drug use and is suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade within Iloilo City and the neighboring province.
According to local sources familiar with the matter, the unnamed jail officer, who hails from Capiz province and is assigned to Dumangas town, was charged following a drug test conducted last April. This test was ordered after a major drug suspect identified the officer as a supplier linked to a P2.3-million haul of suspected methamphetamine, or shabu, confiscated in Iloilo City.
Additional Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Jail Senior Inspector Juniven Rey Umadhay, head of the Legal Service Section, confirmed that the officer is now facing an additional administrative case for grave misconduct. This new charge is in addition to an earlier case for conduct unbecoming of a jail officer.
“This is on top of the serious administrative case for conduct unbecoming of a jail officer,” Umadhay emphasized. The BJMP leadership is determined to enforce strict discipline within its ranks, ensuring that any wrongdoing is met with appropriate sanctions.
Strong Stance Against Corruption
Jail Chief Superintendent Simeon Dolojo Jr. expressed a firm commitment to transparency and accountability. “We will not condone nor conceal any wrongdoing of our personnel,” he stated. “Instead, we will show to them and the public that the full brunt of the law will be imposed against these erring personnel, if the pieces of evidence warrant.”
The BJMP continues to conduct thorough investigations to uncover any possible involvement of personnel in illegal activities. Community leaders and local experts commend the agency’s efforts to maintain integrity and public trust.
Impact on the Community and Next Steps
The revelation of a jail officer’s alleged ties to the drug trade has raised concerns about security and corruption within detention facilities. However, officials assure the public that steps are being taken to address these issues decisively.
Moving forward, the BJMP aims to strengthen internal controls and implement more frequent drug testing to prevent similar incidents. The case remains under investigation as authorities gather more evidence to support administrative or criminal proceedings.
