Palace Stresses Fair Impeachment Trial Process
Malacañang has emphasized that the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte remains a separate matter and not the main focus of President Marcos. However, the Palace insists that all procedures related to the impeachment should be respected and not manipulated. This stance highlights the importance of following the legal framework during such high-profile proceedings.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reiterated in a briefing on June 11 that the President’s attention is elsewhere. Still, he supports the principle of transparency and accountability for all public officials, especially in impeachment matters.
This means the law and Constitution must be followed strictly, and the procedures should serve the people’s interest without being exploited.
No Impact on Marcos from Impeachment Dismissal
The Palace remains confident that President Marcos will not suffer any political fallout even if the impeachment trial against Vice President Duterte gets dismissed. Castro pointed out that the President is not involved in the Senate debates surrounding the trial.
The public can clearly see which senators respect the rules and which do not.
Because the President is not part of the Senate’s deliberations, there is no expected negative effect on his position.
Finally, she reminded that if the trial is dismissed, it will be the people who judge the Senate based on their handling of the impeachment process. “So, kung ito man ay ma-dismiss sabi nga po natin, taumbayan po ang huhusga sa Senado kung ano po ang ginawa nila during the impeachment trial,” she concluded.
