Imus Celebrates National Flag Day and Battle of Alapan

Imus Marks National Flag Day and Battle of Alapan Anniversary

Cavite’s local government in Imus, together with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, commemorated the National Flag Day and the 127th Anniversary of the Battle of Alapan. The event took place on Wednesday, May 28, at the Shrine of the National Flag located in Imus Heritage Park, Barangay Alapan 2B, Imus City.

The National Flag Day and the Battle of Alapan anniversary are significant moments that honor the bravery of Filipino revolutionaries and the historic hoisting of the Philippine flag in 1898. This celebration also marks the start of the National Flag Days, leading up to the country’s Independence Day on June 12.

Community Leaders Emphasize Civic Duty and Legacy Preservation

Several notable officials attended the ceremony, including representatives from the Cavite 3rd District, the National Historical Commission, the National Youth Commission, and local government leaders. During his inspiring speech, a youth commission chairman highlighted the vital role every Filipino plays in upholding the legacy of the nation’s heroes.

This translates to the importance of active community involvement, promoting peace, valuing education, and caring for fellow Filipinos as ways to continue the spirit of the country’s history.

The event served as a reminder to the community that preserving and honoring the sacrifices made during the Battle of Alapan is a shared responsibility. It also reinforced the significance of the Philippine flag as a symbol of freedom and unity.

National Flag Day: A Period of Reflection and Patriotism

National Flag Day begins on May 28 each year to commemorate the historic battle and the first raising of the Philippine flag. This period encourages Filipinos nationwide to reflect on their heritage and renew their patriotic spirit as Independence Day approaches.

Local community leaders and historical advocates continue to stress the importance of such commemorations in educating younger generations and fostering a strong sense of national pride.
