Indian Nationals Face Charges Following Bacolod Good Friday Accident

Indian Nationals Post Bail After Bacolod Good Friday Incident

In Bacolod City, a serious accident occurred last Good Friday in Barangay Alangilan, involving several Indian nationals. Jarpreet Singh, 37, has posted a second bail amounting to P500,000 after an arrest warrant was issued on May 16. This development comes amid charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, physical injuries, and property damage.

Singh initially posted P60,000 bail on April 22, shortly after the charges were filed. The accident on April 18 tragically claimed the lives of three people and injured 17 others, including two police officers. The incident happened when Singh’s multi-purpose vehicle collided with a crowd participating in a religious procession.

According to local authorities, “The first bail was for the inquest proceedings,” indicating that the legal process is ongoing while Singh remains temporarily released. Meanwhile, a separate complaint related to violating the anti-drunk driving law is also pending resolution from the prosecutor’s office. Singh tested positive for alcohol but claimed that he consumed it only as a pain reliever. At the time, he was accompanied by four fellow Indian nationals returning from a resort.

Police Arrest Wanted Fugitive in Sagay City

In another development, a 27-year-old laborer wanted for murder was apprehended in Barangay General Luna, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on May 21. The suspect, known by the name Dodong, is a resident of Escalante City and was considered a high-profile fugitive by provincial police authorities.

Dodong ranked eighth among the most wanted individuals in the Negros Island Region and held high positions on both provincial and city wanted lists. His arrest followed the issuance of a warrant by the Regional Trial Court in San Carlos City, dated February 8, 2023. No bail was recommended for his temporary release, reflecting the gravity of the charges against him.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings and Community Impact

These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and law enforcement in the region. Community leaders and law enforcement officials continue to emphasize the importance of accountability and adherence to traffic laws to prevent future tragedies.

As investigations and trials proceed, the affected families and local communities remain focused on justice and healing. Authorities urge all motorists to exercise caution, especially during major events and religious processions, to protect lives and maintain public safety.
