Indian Nationals May Enter Philippines Visa-Free
Starting June 8, Indian nationals can visit the Philippines visa-free for tourism, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Saturday. This visa-free entry aims to boost tourism arrivals from India, offering a fresh opportunity for travelers eager to explore the country.
Indian visitors can stay for up to 14 days without a visa, but this period is non-extendible and non-convertible. To qualify, travelers must present a passport valid for at least six months beyond their stay, proof of confirmed hotel bookings, evidence of financial capacity, and a return or onward ticket. The introduction of this visa-free privilege reflects the government’s commitment to enhance tourism ties with India.
Extended Visa-Free Stay for Certain Visa Holders
Indian nationals holding valid visas or residence permits from countries like the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, Schengen states, Singapore, or the United Kingdom may enjoy an extended visa-free stay of 30 days for tourism. However, this stay remains non-extendible and cannot be converted to other visa types.
The DFA clarified that these privileges apply at all Philippine ports of entry but do not allow changes to other admission categories. Furthermore, travelers must not have any derogatory records with the Bureau of Immigration to qualify for visa-free entry.
Visa Requirements for Non-Tourism Visits
For Indian nationals transiting through the Philippines or engaging in long-term or non-tourism activities, securing the appropriate visa from a Philippine Embassy or Consulate remains mandatory. Those eligible for e-visas can apply online via the official government portal, but these e-visas also cannot be extended or converted.
This policy change coincides with Air India’s announcement of direct flights between Manila and Delhi starting October 1. This new route aims to strengthen tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between the Philippines and India, signaling a promising future for bilateral relations.
