International Boxing Referee Bruce Mctavish Dies at 84
ANGELES CITY, Pampanga—International boxing referee Bruce Mctavish passed away at 6:06 p.m. on Wednesday in his home here, sources confirmed on Thursday. The veteran official was 84 years old.
Born on October 11, 1940, in Auckland, New Zealand, Mctavish was of Scottish heritage. He spent nearly five decades living in the Philippines, where he married Carmen from the respected Tayag family in Pampanga. His only brother survives him.
Legendary Career in Boxing
Mctavish officiated an impressive 150 title fights throughout his career. Among the boxers he worked with was former senator Manny Pacquiao, according to local family sources. His dedication to the sport earned him respect both locally and internationally.
Becoming a Filipino Citizen
After living in the Philippines for many years, Mctavish sought Filipino citizenship. He finally secured it in 2018, with assistance from then-Senator Richard Gordon, marking a significant milestone in his life.
Funeral Arrangements
His wake is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Divine Mercy Chapel in Carmenville Subdivision, Angeles City. The funeral service will follow on Sunday, starting with a Mass at 7:30 a.m., according to family announcements.
