International Migrants School 2025 Graduation Marks Hope

International Migrants School 2025 Graduation Celebration

A day filled with pride and joy unfolded at the International Migrants School 2025 graduation ceremony in Rome. This special event honored more than 50 students who completed different academic levels, including 16 Grade 10 pupils and 33 Senior High School graduates under the K to 12 program.

The International Migrants School, following the Filipino curriculum, plays a crucial role in supporting the education and culture of Filipino migrant children and students from many countries. Over half of its learners come from nations such as India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Italy, highlighting the school’s dedication to a multicultural and inclusive learning environment.

Leadership and Vision Behind the School

Leading the ceremony was IMS founder and directress Milagros Nabur, a proud Bicolana and University of Santo Tomas Bicol alumna. She arrived in Italy in 1989 as a scholar and later earned her Ph.D. through the Salesian Don Bosco scholarship at Pontificia Salesiana. After finishing her dissertation in the United States, she established the International Migrants School, initially named M&L International Training Center.

Now in its eighth year, IMS has guided over 140 students with the help of a dedicated team consisting of nine Filipino, three Indian, and one Italian educator. Their combined efforts have made this achievement possible.

Gratitude and Community Strength

In her heartfelt speech, Nabur thanked the entire IMS community — teachers, parents, and students. “Establishing a school in a foreign land is never easy, but through collaboration, faith, and unity—we stand here today, stronger and more purposeful,” she shared.

The event was honored by distinguished guests, including the Philippine Embassy’s Consul General in Rome, a former parliamentarian and university professor, and the Director of the Office for Migrants of the Vicariate of Rome. These guests personally handed out diplomas, certificates, and academic awards during the touching ceremony.

Dreams Begin Here

One of the standout graduates was Marc Andrei Alita, who earned high honors. “It’s so fulfilling to finally reach the beginning of my dreams,” Marc expressed. He reflected on the valuable life lessons and joyful memories gained throughout high school that shaped his character.

His mother shared an emotional sentiment: “This isn’t just the fulfillment of a dream; it represents the essence of my motherhood. I see true success in him.”

Celebrating Excellence and Family Unity

Another highlight was the recognition of twin sisters Aliyah Denise and Alyanah Karise Aldana, both awarded academic honors and scholarships for the next school year. Their parents expressed deep gratitude: “We worked hard to bring the twins here to Italy so our family could be whole again. We are deeply thankful to IMS for allowing them to continue their education and for the opportunities they’ve now received.”

Inspiring Future Paths

Alfred Pallarca, Manager of the EU Project at EVBB in Brussels and originally from Cabanatuan, Philippines, delivered an inspiring keynote. Having migrated to the US at age 12, earned a master’s degree in Germany, and now based in Belgium, he encouraged students to “Keep being curious because that’s how you move forward in life. As long as you keep going, you’ll discover who you really are—and become the person you are meant to be.”

A Cultural Milestone for Filipino Families

Graduation ceremonies are uncommon in Italian schools, making the IMS celebration deeply significant for Filipino families. It was not just a formal event but a tribute to sacrifice, resilience, and hope for a brighter future.

Despite the challenges of migration, IMS remains a beacon of education and hope, empowering young Filipinos in Italy to pursue their dreams boldly.
