ITCZ Expected to Bring Rain Across Palawan and Visayas
MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone is set to bring rain over Palawan and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, June 21, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). This weather pattern, known as the intertropical convergence zone, forms where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet.
Weather specialist Grace Castañeda shared in the morning forecast that Palawan, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will expect occasional heavy rainfalls due to the ITCZ. “Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will experience only isolated or sudden rain showers and thunderstorms. This is still due to the ITCZ,” she said mostly in Filipino.
Easterlies to Affect Luzon and Surrounding Areas
Meanwhile, Pagasa noted that easterly winds will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers to parts of Luzon, including Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Quezon, and the Bicol Region. These easterlies are warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.
The chance of rain is also high in other parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, due to these easterly winds. Central and Eastern Visayas will similarly experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, Castañeda added.
No Tropical Cyclones or Gale Warnings
At present, Pagasa is not monitoring any tropical cyclones or low-pressure areas within the Philippine area of responsibility. Furthermore, no gale warnings have been issued for the country’s coastal waters, ensuring safe conditions for seafarers.
