14 OFWs Survive Iran Missile Attack in Israel
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has actively provided aid to 14 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who survived a missile strike in Rehovot City, Israel. These Filipinos were inside a residential building approximately 20 kilometers from Tel Aviv when an Iranian ballistic missile hit the structure.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed relief, stating, “We are thankful that there were no reported fatalities during that incident. However, four of them were injured and are now in a hospital.” The department has already supplied essential needs and financial help to those affected. “This is a continuing effort to provide all the necessary assistance to our kababayans as directed by our President,” he added.
Immediate Support and Shelter Provided
To ensure their safety, eight of the 14 OFWs were relocated to a temporary shelter. Meanwhile, five remain with their employers, while one chose to stay with a friend for security reasons. The DMW has maintained close coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv to address the victims’ food, shelter, and medical requirements.
Ongoing Monitoring and Assistance
The DMW team, together with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), continues to monitor the condition of the critically injured OFWs. Secretary Cacdac emphasized that the agency remains on high alert, ready to provide rescue, evacuation, or repatriation services if necessary.
These efforts highlight the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of overseas Filipinos amid escalating regional tensions. Local leaders noted the importance of swift action and constant vigilance to safeguard Filipinos far from home.
