Israel attacked Hodeidah ports in Yemen
Israel attacked Hodeidah in Yemen after warning residents to evacuate three ports controlled by the Houthis, the Houthi interior ministry said on Sunday. The Israeli military urged people in Ras Isa, Hodeidah, and Salif to leave, claiming the ports were being used by the Iranian-backed Houthis.
However, Nasruddin Amer, head of the Houthi-run state news agency Saba, denied that Israel had launched any attacks on Yemeni ports. So far, Israel has not commented on the strikes.
Recent missile launches and ceasefire talks
The attacks happened just days after Houthis fired a missile towards Israel, which was intercepted. This escalation comes ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East this week.
Since March 15, Trump has stepped up military pressure on Houthi strongholds in Yemen. He also agreed to a ceasefire deal mediated by Oman. Yet, the Houthis clarified that the agreement did not include Israel.
Houthis’ campaign and Israel’s retaliation
The Houthis have launched missiles and drones at Israel and targeted ships in major shipping lanes. They say their actions express solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Trump mentioned on Tuesday that the Houthis agreed to stop disrupting key Middle Eastern shipping routes.
In response, Israel has carried out multiple airstrikes against Houthi targets across Yemen. The situation remains tense as both sides continue their military actions.
