The driver, identified as a 45-year-old man, along with sixteen passengers, including several minors, were hurt in the crash. Among the injured were adults Edgar Vecino, Daisy Espinueva, Fred Pena, Emily Dingwas, Lourdes Galate, Myla Pasta, Grace Vecino, and Susan Antonio. The minor passengers included Jiecka, Nicole Shane, Nica, Immarie Kate, Aizen Dawrylle, Shinrei Aile, Shaira, and Jared.
According to local reports, four of the victims came from Itogon, Benguet; eight were residents of San Gabriel, La Union; three were from San Fernando City itself; and one was from Baguio City.
Cause of the Accident and Response
Investigations indicate that the malfunctioning brakes caused the driver to lose control while moving downhill, leading to the jeepney overturning. Emergency responders quickly transported the injured to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center for treatment.
