Justice Sec. Remulla Presents New Evidence
MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed on Tuesday that additional evidence concerning the former judge linked to the missing sabungeros case will be submitted to the Supreme Court. This move intensifies the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts.
Remulla’s announcement follows the Supreme Court’s confirmation that it has initiated a probe into reports that an individual connected to the missing sabungeros case is trying to influence members of the judiciary improperly.
Supreme Court Investigates Judicial Influence
In a brief interview with reporters, Remulla shared, “These are just information. I gave them something that they’re trying to digest now. But there’s more coming.” He added that the evidence includes various transcriptions of recorded conversations, suggesting a complex web of influence.
When asked about the nature of the influence exercised by the former judge, Remulla described it as “transactional.” This implies a possible exchange of favors or benefits to sway judicial decisions.
Allegations Against Former Judge Surface
The situation escalated after Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, also known as “Totoy,” accused a former judge of facilitating cases for businessman Atong Ang. Ang is also accused of involvement in the disappearance of the sabungeros. These revelations have heightened concerns over judicial integrity.
To address these serious allegations, Remulla met with Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on Monday morning. Their discussion focused on the alleged role of the ex-judge in the missing sabungeros case.
