MANILA, Philippines — The K9 handler involved in the viral video showing the abuse of a service dog within the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) premises has been terminated from service immediately. This decision came after the Search and Secure Canine Training and Services International Inc. (SAS K9) completed an internal investigation into the incident.
The service dog abuse case prompted SAS K9 to act swiftly, upgrading the handler’s status from suspension to termination due to gross negligence and violation of animal welfare protocols. Officials reported that the agency remains committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical K9 handling.
Agency Response and Apology
In a public statement, SAS K9 expressed deep regret over the incident, acknowledging the distress caused to the public and animal advocates. “This action is unacceptable, and we are taking this matter seriously,” the agency stated.

Meralco’s Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications expressed the company’s deep disturbance over the abuse.
