Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda Boosts Regional Stability
The Philippine government has recently launched the Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda program near Bajo De Masinloc to enhance food security and promote stability in the area. This initiative allows direct purchase of fresh seafood from Filipino fishermen while they are still at sea, ensuring better income for the local fishing communities.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro explained that the deployment of the government-owned fish carrier M/V Mamalakaya plays a key role in this effort. It facilitates the immediate buying of fresh catch, reducing the need for multiple middlemen and supporting fishermen directly.
Support Through Fuel and Ice Subsidies
Aside from buying fresh seafood, the program also offers practical assistance to fishermen. “Bukod sa pagbili ng huli ay magbibigay rin ito ng subsidiya sa krudo at yelo bilang tulong sa mga mangingisdang nahihirapan sa transportasyon at iba pang gastusin,” said Castro. This means that fuel and ice subsidies are provided to help fishermen with transportation and other expenses, easing their financial burden.
Aligning with National Maritime Goals
The Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda program aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to promote food security and maritime development, especially in the West Philippine Sea. This region, rich in marine resources, benefits from the program’s targeted help for local fishermen.
Positive Impact on Fishermen and National Presence
According to a local maritime official, about 120 fishermen and 11 fishing vessels have already gained from this program. Besides economic benefits, the program also strengthens the presence of Philippine forces in this resource-rich area, reinforcing national sovereignty and security.
Through initiatives like the Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda, the government continues to support Filipino fishing communities while securing vital maritime zones for future generations.
