Kalinisan Program Drives Nationwide Clean-Up Efforts

Over 133 Million Kilograms of Garbage Collected Nationwide

Since its launch in January 2024, the Kalinisan Program has successfully gathered over 133 million kilograms of garbage across the Philippines. Officials reported that this achievement occurred between January 6, 2024, and May 3, 2025, highlighting the program’s significant impact on solid waste management.

Local leaders noted that more than 22,000 barangays have participated in cleaning approximately 4 million sites nationwide. Each week, around 500,000 participants—including 166,000 barangay officials—actively engage in these community-driven efforts.

Kalinisan Program as a Holistic Strategy

Authorities emphasized that the Kalinisan Program is more than just a clean-up drive. It serves as a comprehensive disaster risk reduction, public health, and nation-building strategy. Community members said, “Kalinisan is more than a clean-up drive. It is a disaster risk reduction, public health, and nation-building strategy—proving that clean communities are safer, healthier, and more resilient against floods, disease, and disorder.”

By promoting cleanliness, the program helps create safer and healthier environments that are better prepared to withstand natural disasters and health crises.

Regular Clean-Ups and Waste Management Practices

The Kalinisan Program mandates local governments and communities to conduct regular clean-ups. These activities focus on addressing solid waste issues and preventing flooding by clearing waterways, drainage systems, and public spaces of debris and plastic waste.

Moreover, the program encourages proper waste disposal practices, including segregation, transport to transfer stations, recycling in Materials Recovery Facilities, and composting. Officials reported these steps are vital for sustainable waste management and environmental protection.

Community Engagement and Future Goals

Community members continue to play a crucial role in the success of the Kalinisan Program. Their active participation ensures that clean-up activities are sustained and that environmental awareness grows nationwide.

Looking ahead, local leaders aim to expand the program’s reach and deepen its impact, fostering resilient and eco-friendly communities across the country.
