Karlo Nograles Holds Last Campaign Rally in Davao City
DAVAO CITY—Attorney Karlo Nograles made his final push on Saturday as he held his last campaign rally, aiming to secure the mayoral seat of Davao City. This position is highly contested, with former President Rodrigo Duterte expressing his desire to lead the city once again.
Running as an independent candidate, Nograles outlined key promises to win voters’ support. He committed to providing medical assistance of at least P25,000 to those in need. Additionally, he pledged free school supplies and uniforms to students, aiming to ease the burden on families.
Karlo Nograles and Running Mate Bernie Al-Ag
Nograles’ running mate is incumbent 1st district councilor Bernie Al-Ag. Al-Ag briefly served as vice mayor from 2017 to 2019 after Paolo “Pulong” Duterte resigned to pursue a congressional seat. Together, Nograles and Al-Ag are positioning themselves as a fresh alternative in the May 12, 2025 elections.
Meanwhile, the mayoral race features a notable father-and-son rivalry. Former President Rodrigo Duterte and incumbent Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte are also vying for the city’s top post, setting the stage for a highly competitive election.
Family Ties Shape Davao City Elections
Karlo Nograles isn’t the only member of his family running for office. His sister, House Deputy Majority Leader Margarita “Migs” Nograles, is challenging Pulong Duterte for the representative seat of Davao City’s 1st district.
During her miting de avance, Migs vowed to continue and strengthen the programs she started as a PBA party-list representative. She emphasized that voting for the coalition of the Nograles, Al-Ag, and Campos families means voting for the “life and future” of every Davaoeño.
Campaigns Heat Up Ahead of Eleksyon 2025
Just a day earlier, the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod party held its own miting de avance. At this event, Baste Duterte campaigned energetically on behalf of his father, who is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands. The former president faces allegations related to his controversial drug war.
With the election drawing near, the battle for Davao City’s leadership is intensifying. Voters will soon decide between long-standing political names and fresh faces promising change.
