Keep Going: Bar Examinees Encouraged to Persist
MANILA, Philippines — The message to all Bar examinees this year is clear: keep going. Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier, Chairperson of the 2025 Bar Examinations, urged candidates to persevere throughout the demanding three-day test.
Out of 13,193 admitted examinees, 11,437 showed up for the first day of the examinations held on September 7. The tests will continue on September 10 and 14 across various local testing centers nationwide.
Importance of Showing Up and Staying Committed
Justice Lazaro-Javier highlighted the vital role of persistence and presence in overcoming the challenge. “Keep going. Success is not a product of just one decision or one action. It’s a series of decisions to show up and do your best,” she shared when asked to send a message to first-day test takers, according to officials involved in the event.
She further emphasized, “If they don’t show up, that’s it. It’s the end of the line but I want my babies to keep fighting until the end and pray and win this challenge.”
Respecting Personal Decisions to Withdraw
Some examinees might choose not to complete the remaining days of the Bar exams. While Justice Lazaro-Javier expressed sadness over this, she refrained from passing judgment. “I really tried my best to encourage them on any occasion that I will get the chance to talk to them. But at the end of the day, it’s their decision. I cannot judge them for their decision because I am not in their situation,” community members reported her saying.
Legal Fields and the Call for Integrity
When asked about which legal fields require more lawyers, the Bar chairperson noted that no particular area stands out as needing more practitioners than others. Instead, she stressed the importance of competence across all legal disciplines.
“Siguro ang gusto ko lang sa kanila (Maybe, what I want for them is), even though they might choose to be in the private practice, that they will never stop doing public service and that they should never lose their idealism and never sacrifice their integrity. Because a good lawyer is a good person,” local leaders recalled her expressing.
Justice Lazaro-Javier’s message serves as a strong reminder for all aspiring lawyers: keep going through every challenge, maintain integrity, and commit to public service regardless of the legal path chosen.
