Kennon Road Reopens to Light Vehicles After Rockslides
BAGUIO CITY — Kennon Road reopened to light vehicles on Sunday, July 6, following rockslides that struck Camp 4 in Tuba, Benguet, sources said. The century-old road, known for its winding zigzag path, has long been vulnerable to landslides, especially during the rainy season.
Continuous rains triggered multiple landslides not only along Kennon Road but also in Barangay Irisan and on Legarda Road, a popular area lined with hotels, local leaders noted. These events caused temporary closures and disruptions for motorists and residents alike.
Ongoing Road Clearing Efforts in Benguet and Kalinga
In nearby Kalinga province, crews successfully reopened one of the boundary roads linking it to Mountain Province, restoring access after previous closures. However, the Governor Bado Dangwa National Road in Kapangan, Benguet, remains blocked as clearing operations continue.
Authorities remain vigilant as the rainy season persists, warning travelers to exercise caution when using these mountain routes. They also encourage motorists to stay updated on road conditions to avoid accidents caused by unstable terrain.
