Korean Cultural Center Presents the Lights of Korea Exhibit
The Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) is set to offer a captivating summer experience with its newest attraction. From May 24 to July 31, the center will proudly showcase the vibrant and sparkling “Lights of Korea: Jinju Silk Lanterns” exhibit.
This event features the exquisite silk lanterns originating from Jinju, a city in South Korea renowned for its centuries-old tradition of silk craftsmanship. These lanterns, once simple festival decorations, have now gained international recognition as unique works of art.
Presented free of charge, the exhibit is part of the 2025 Touring K-Arts Program organized by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange.
Experience the Beauty and Culture of Jinju Silk Lanterns
For the first time, the famous Jinju Silk Lanterns will be displayed in the Philippines, allowing visitors to admire their intricate designs and cultural significance. Attendees can also participate in hands-on activities, including a DIY lantern workshop, where they can create their own lanterns to take home as souvenirs.
On the opening day, May 24, a special Mini House Concert will take place at 2:00 p.m., featuring traditional Korean performers who will enrich the cultural atmosphere of the event.
KCC hopes this exhibit will deepen the cultural ties between Korea and the Philippines, fostering mutual appreciation and understanding.
Regional Tour and Cultural Impact
After its run in Manila, the “Lights of Korea: Jinju Silk Lanterns” exhibit will continue to other parts of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and Vietnam, bringing this beautiful art form to a wider audience.
Local experts note that the lanterns’ transformation from simple festival items to celebrated art pieces highlights Korea’s rich cultural heritage. The exhibit not only offers a visual feast but also invites visitors to engage with Korean traditions in an interactive way.
