Korean Stars Head Over Heels Reunite in Prime Series
Korean actors Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo reunite in the enchanting new Prime Video Korean series, “Head Over Heels.” The show premieres on June 23 in the Philippines and over 240 countries worldwide.
Cho Yi-hyun, famed for her roles in “All of Us Are Dead” and “Hospital Playlist,” returns to the spotlight alongside Choo Young-woo, who won Best New Actor at the 2025 Baeksang Arts Awards for “Tale of Lady Ok.” He also appeared in “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”
A Unique Blend of Fantasy and Romance
In “Head Over Heels,” Cho Yi-hyun portrays Seong-A, a student by day and a shaman by night. She meets Gyeon-U (Choo Young-woo), a young man burdened by a curse that marks his days as numbered. Using her shamanic powers, Seong-A sees Gyeon-U walking upside down—an ominous sign of his fate. Despite this, she falls deeply in love and vows to save him.
Directed by Kim Yong-wan and penned by Yang Ji-hoon, the series blends fantasy, romance, and action into a seamless story. Sources said Cho and Choo shared insights about their reunion and the show’s essence during a recent interview with Asian media.
Reunion Sparks Genuine Chemistry
Previously co-stars in the teen drama “School 2021,” the pair reflected on their renewed partnership. Choo Young-woo noted, “First off, when we reunited this time around, I was so blown away by how, appearance-wise, she hadn’t changed a bit. It was really amazing. And internally, she had grown so much as an actor.”
Cho Yi-hyun replied, “As for Young-woo here, when I met him after several years, I was amazed by how he had matured, both internally and externally. He has such a good build now compared to before. Working with a friend of the same age made the set very comfortable.”
Portraying First Love and Fate
Cho described her character’s feelings: “First love for Seong-A is just how hard her heart was pounding when she first saw him. So, love at first sight.”
Choo added, “I think it’s the first person that comes to mind when you hear the word ‘first love,’ even when a long time has passed.”
To prepare, Cho Yi-hyun worked closely with a real shaman to master the rituals called “Gut,” practicing chants and movements repeatedly to capture authenticity.
Choo described Gyeon-U as “a boy haunted by bad luck but who tries to live life in an easygoing manner,” sharing that this trait mirrors his own calm personality.
Filming Experience and Script Appeal
Both actors enjoyed the shoot, feeling at ease from their previous collaboration. Cho said, “The chemistry was equally great both on and off set. I’m usually introverted, so having someone familiar around made it easier.”
For Cho Yi-hyun, the script was a major draw: “I was hooked right away. The timing was perfect as I was really into shamanism. Playing a character with a double life promised a lot of growth.”
Choo Young-woo found the romantic storyline compelling: “A student by day and a shaman by night, paired with someone whose time is limited—that’s unique and endearing. Plus, the show’s healing vibe fits today’s trend.”
What Viewers Can Expect
Cho highlighted the show’s distinctive mix of genres: “Unlike other dramas, ‘Head Over Heels’ blends multiple genres perfectly. That makes it really special.”
Choo invited viewers to anticipate thrilling action scenes alongside the romance: “The female lead’s dual life as a shaman is unique. Plus, I do archery and there are intense ghost encounters. It’s exciting and fresh.”
Both emphasized the show’s core message. Cho shared, “Have faith in your choices. If you believe and push through, it’s the right path. The show centers on love, and I hope viewers feel that deeply.”
Choo added, “I don’t believe in destiny but in creating our own fate. Having support makes all the difference. Gyeon-U is lucky to have such an ally.”
“Head Over Heels” debuts on Prime Video on June 23.
