Labor Reforms Drive Employment and Wage Progress

Government Pushes Labor Reforms Drive Forward

The administration remains steadfast in pushing critical labor reforms, focusing on accelerating employment facilitation and reviewing minimum wage rates. This commitment was reinforced with the retention of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma in the Cabinet. The labor reforms drive aims to create more inclusive employment opportunities across the country.

Secretary Laguesma stressed the importance of sustaining school-to-work transition programs and livelihood projects. “This is not just about staying; it’s about fulfilling our commitment to ensure no one is left behind in our labor and employment programs,” he said. Government officials are inspired by the President’s hands-on leadership, which encourages them to address the needs of vulnerable sectors effectively.

Wage Review and Public Consultations Underway

Public consultations and hearings on the minimum wage review in the National Capital Region (NCR) are currently ongoing. Formal deliberations are expected to conclude by mid-July. This follows the directive for the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPB) to review wage orders at least 60 days before their anniversary, ensuring timely adjustments to wage policies.

Nationwide Job Fair to Boost Employment Access

In support of the labor reforms drive, DOLE will organize a nationwide job fair on June 12, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations. The event aims to connect jobseekers with stable and better-paying jobs, creating a vital platform to facilitate employment.

The job fair will serve as a one-stop shop for essential documentary requirements. Job applicants can secure NBI and PSA certificates, as well as access BIR, SSS, and PhilHealth services on-site, simplifying the hiring process significantly. Additionally, free medical examinations will be offered in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), helping to expedite employment procedures.

Secretary Laguesma encouraged all applicants to participate with confidence and professionalism. He emphasized that these initiatives exemplify the government’s dedication to expanding decent job opportunities and improving labor conditions nationwide.
