Laguna Water Marks Philippine Arbor Day
Laguna Water celebrated the 2025 Philippine Arbor Day with its annual tree planting and nurturing program, Pasibol: Puno ng Pag-asa. This year, over 70 volunteers, including employees and key stakeholders, gathered to plant 500 native tree saplings. The event took place at the Camp Scouter Jaime B. Ching Campsite in Barangay Anibong, Pagsanjan, Laguna, a half-hectare site managed by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines – Laguna Council.
As a Manila Water Non-East Zone operating unit, Laguna Water provides water, wastewater, and environmental services across several municipalities in Laguna. Their commitment to the environment is reflected in their continuous tree-planting efforts aligned with the Philippine Arbor Day.
Community and Partner Support for Tree Planting
Roselyn Pagtananan, Head of the Pagsanjan Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, highlighted the importance of protecting the site due to its closeness to the town’s water source. She expressed strong support for ongoing tree-growing activities that aid watershed conservation.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) also contributed by supplying the seedlings for the activity. A representative from LLDA pointed out that the Pagsanjan area still maintains rich vegetation compared to other parts of Laguna. They expressed pride in partnering with Laguna Water for such environmental projects throughout the province.
Volunteers from the Pagsanjan Water District, Laguna Water’s service partner, joined the initiative as well. Their General Manager pledged to help protect the newly planted trees to ensure they grow into mature forest cover, reinforcing the community’s commitment to sustainability.
Laguna Water’s Environmental Commitment
Kenneth Kim Villanueva, Laguna Water’s Expansion Operations Head, emphasized the program’s significance to the company’s mission. Since Pasibol began in 2017, more than 6,000 trees have been planted thanks to the dedication of employees and partners. These efforts help safeguard watersheds and support biodiversity in the region.
Earlier in June, Laguna Water employees also took part in a seed potting and soil bagging event at the University of the Philippines Los Baños’ Modernized and Mechanized Forest Nursery. This activity, led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources CALABARZON, supports government greening programs and marks Laguna Water’s second year in Project Greenshade. Project Greenshade aims to enhance forest cover and ecological resilience across the CALABARZON region.
Building a Sustainable Future
These initiatives underline Laguna Water’s role in the wider sustainability strategy of the Manila Water enterprise. Through such programs, the company strengthens its commitment to reliable water services and a greener, more sustainable future for all.
