Lakas-CMD House Membership Expands
The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) House membership has surged to 110 members following the induction of two new representatives on Monday, June 16. This growth highlights the party’s solidifying influence in Congress as it welcomes Davao de Oro 2nd district Rep. Jhong Ceniza and Valenzuela City 2nd district Rep. Gerald Galang.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who also serves as the party president, personally administered the oath of membership. His leadership continues to attract key lawmakers aiming to support the party’s agenda.
Strengthening Political Influence
In addition to the House members, Davao de Oro Governor Raul Mabanglo took his oath before Romualdez, raising the number of incumbent provincial governors aligned with Lakas-CMD to 16. This solidifies the party’s reach in both legislative and executive branches at the local level.
Before their membership oath, Rep. Ceniza, Gov. Mabanglo, and other local officials including Davao del Norte 1st district Rep. Oyo Uy, Cagayan de Oro 3rd district Rep. Jojo Lara, and Laak, Davao de Oro Mayor Mark Anthony Libuangan also took their respective oaths of office, all administered by Romualdez.
Party Unity and Legislative Agenda
Speaker Romualdez expressed his sincere appreciation to the new members, emphasizing their shared commitment to the vision of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. He remarked, “Your decision to join us means that you share our collective aspiration and the goal of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to improve the lives of our constituents, our people in general.”
He added that as the party grows in size, it strengthens legislative support for the President’s agenda and the comprehensive Bagong Pilipinas vision. Romualdez also hopes the new members will actively engage and contribute to the party’s initiatives.
Supermajority Support in the 20th Congress
Deputy Speaker and Quezon 2nd district Rep. David “Jayjay” Suarez noted that Romualdez now commands a “supermajority” of at least 285 House members ahead of the 20th Congress. This majority is crucial as the House prepares for the next Speakership vote.
The increasing Lakas-CMD House membership signals a consolidating power base that could play a significant role in shaping legislative priorities and governance in the coming years.
