A massive fire erupted on Thursday at Batangas Port, scorching around 20 hectares of land. The blaze started just before 1 p.m., initially met by the Philippine Ports Authority’s fire truck. But the fire quickly grew beyond their control.
Batangas Port manager Joselito Sinocruz described the scene with urgency. “The area is full of tall, dry grass—perfect fuel for the fire,” he said. The grassland was a restricted zone used as a parking spot for new cars awaiting dispatch. Sinocruz even shared that he often asked fire trucks to water the dry grass to prevent such disasters.
When the fire escalated, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) rushed to the scene. Sinocruz praised their swift action, noting how they diligently protected the nearby residential areas. Firefighters focused on preventing the flames from crossing the wall towards homes, soaking the perimeter with water sourced from port fire hydrants.
At present, BFP investigators are combing through the site, searching for clues about the fire’s cause. While the blaze was fierce earlier, containment efforts by the firefighters have been relentless.
This fire serves as a stark reminder of how even the driest grass can spark chaos. Authorities remain on high alert, working tirelessly to keep the community safe. The full story behind the blaze is still unfolding—stay tuned for updates.
