Las Pinas City Mayor Leads Relief Efforts
Las Pinas City mayor-elect April Aguilar took charge in distributing relief goods to 260 people displaced by a recent fire. The fire struck homes in Samatierra Compound, Las Pinas City, on Tuesday, June 3. Aguilar, along with the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, provided essential supplies including sleeping kits, hygiene packs, and food to families temporarily housed in evacuation centers.
To ensure comfort and privacy, the city government also set up modular tents where each family could have their own space. Mayor-elect Aguilar emphasized that the city is committed to offering health assistance and essential medicines, particularly for those who require maintenance drugs.
Fire Incident and Response Details
According to local reports, the fire began around 1:02 p.m. in Samatierra Compound, Barangay Almanza Uno, and quickly spread to nearby residences in Barangay BF Homes. Most affected homes were made of light materials, which contributed to the rapid spread. The fire was contained by 1:40 p.m., but not before injuring five people who were promptly given medical care.
Investigation revealed that the blaze started when a resident accidentally poured water onto a pan filled with boiling cooking oil, triggering the fire. Local leaders remarked on the importance of fire safety awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Ongoing Support for Fire Victims
The city government continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that all displaced families receive necessary aid. Officials are coordinating with health workers and social services to meet the immediate and long-term needs of those affected.
