Leila de Lima Accepts Role in Prosecution Panel
Leila de Lima, the first nominee of the ML Partylist, has agreed to join the House of Representatives’ prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. She revealed she received the invitation earlier today and promptly accepted the offer.
“Got a call from the Speaker just an hour ago. I answered yes to the suggestion/offer to be part of the prosecution panel,” De Lima shared in a message to reporters.
Changes in the Prosecution Panel
The impeachment trial’s House Prosecution Panel consists of 11 members, but several were not reelected in the recent Eleksyon 2025. This led to openings that De Lima has now stepped in to fill.
Commitment to Justice and Accountability
De Lima emphasized that her decision is rooted in a firm belief that public office carries the responsibility to uphold accountability, regardless of the individuals involved. She stated, “I’ve always believed that public office comes with the duty to uphold accountability, no matter the personalities involved. This is part of my continuing work for justice and reform. I’m here to serve the truth—nothing more, nothing less.”
Her acceptance signals a strong commitment to the legal process amid political shifts. As the impeachment trial progresses, her role on the prosecution panel will be closely watched by many.
