Fatal Leyte Dump Truck Accident Injures Workers
A tragic accident shook Leyte town early Thursday morning, July 10, when a dump truck carrying construction workers lost control and plunged into a drainage canal. The Leyte dump truck accident resulted in one fatality and left 13 others injured.
The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. in Barangay Calaguise. The blue Isuzu dump truck, owned by a local sand and gravel company, was driven by Ricky, a 44-year-old resident of Barangay Balucanad, Capoocan, Leyte. According to local authorities, the vehicle was en route from Capoocan to Calaguise when its brakes failed.
Brake Failure Leads to Leyte Dump Truck Accident
Leyte municipal police explained that the brake malfunction caused the driver to lose control, causing the truck to veer off the national highway. The vehicle then crashed into a roadside drainage canal, carrying 14 passengers mostly composed of construction workers and laborers.
Emergency responders quickly transported the victims to OSPA-Farmer’s Medical Center in Ormoc City. Sadly, a 38-year-old passenger named Oliver was declared dead upon arrival. The remaining 13 passengers sustained various injuries and received immediate medical attention.
