Assault Incident in Tondo Involving LGBTQIA+ Member
A member of the LGBTQIA+ community was seriously injured in Tondo, Manila, after being attacked by another member over jealousy. The incident unfolded at Asuncion Market on Sunday night.
The victim, known as Erica, 27, had just attended a baptism when she passed through the market on her motorcycle. Moments later, a suspect identified as Miriam, 26, approached and suddenly began punching her.
CCTV Footage Reveals Brutality of Attack
Security camera footage shows that even after Erica fell to the ground, Miriam continued to punch and stomp on her before fleeing the scene. Erica sustained facial injuries, and her body was bruised further when the motorcycle she was riding slipped while she was being taken to the hospital.
Jealousy as Root Cause of Conflict
According to Erica’s account, jealousy sparked the violent attack. “Ex-girlfriend niya kasi ang live-in partner ngayon ni alyas Miriam,” she explained. Erica had attended the baptism of her ex-partner’s nephew earlier that day, which may have provoked Miriam’s anger.
Police Investigate Motive and Relationship Dynamics
Authorities are examining the possibility that Miriam became enraged upon discovering that Erica and Miriam’s live-in partner were involved simultaneously. Miriam reportedly admitted that she had lived with her girlfriend for three years, only recently learning about Erica’s relationship with her partner, which lasted nine months before ending just last week.
Suspect Taken into Custody
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the barangay officials shortly after the incident. She is now in police custody at Moriones Police Station, facing charges of frustrated homicide.
This case highlights the complex emotional dynamics and challenges within the LGBTQIA+ community, especially concerning issues of trust and jealousy.
