Light Plane Emergency Landing Saves Seven in Isabela Cornfield

Light Plane Emergency Landing in Isabela

A light plane emergency landing occurred at a corn farm in Barangay District 1, Reina Mercedes town, Isabela province, on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The aircraft experienced mechanical trouble around noon, prompting the pilot to bring it down safely in the rural area, local officials reported.

The SkyPasada plane, with tail number RP-C1018 and owned by WCC Aviation Inc., took off from Cauayan Domestic Airport in Cauayan City at 11:40 a.m. It was en route to the coastal town of Maconacon when the pilot decided on the emergency landing in Reina Mercedes due to technical difficulties, sources said.

Details of the Flight and Emergency Landing

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has not yet disclosed the exact cause of the mechanical failure that led to the emergency landing. However, community members confirmed that the pilot acted quickly to avoid any potential disaster.

Seven people were on board, including the pilot, and all escaped unharmed. They are currently under the care of the Reina Mercedes police, who have been coordinating with local authorities to ensure their safety, officials noted.

Passengers and Pilot Information

The pilot was identified as Captain Alito Getalaga, 56 years old. The passengers included Dante Cabaldo, 48; Floremia Cabaldo, 81; Rogelio Lagula, 54; and three others named Perfecta Jacinto, Olegario Cortes, and Norberto Centeno. All passengers are residents of Divilacan town in Isabela, local leaders said.

Police reports highlighted that Captain Getalaga made the decision to land immediately after detecting the mechanical failure. His calm and decisive action was praised by residents and officials alike.

Community Response and Safety Praise

Residents near the corn farm expressed admiration for the pilot’s skill and bravery. Villagers noted how Captain Getalaga successfully guided the plane to a safe landing site, preventing any injuries or damage to property.

“Salamat sa Diyos nga luwas ang tanan,” one community member said, expressing relief that everyone on board remained safe. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of pilot training and quick response during emergencies.

Authorities continue to investigate the mechanical issue that forced the light plane emergency landing. Meanwhile, the occupants are recuperating under police supervision.
