Traffic Lightens on North Luzon Expressway Amid Rain
MANILA, Philippines — After enduring hours of heavy congestion caused by the southwest monsoon rains, a light volume of traffic now moves smoothly on many parts of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Tuesday morning. The light volume of traffic on the expressway has brought relief to motorists who faced significant delays earlier.
According to a traffic update from the NLEx Corporation at 9:30 a.m., several key areas experienced noticeable easing of traffic. These include the RFID lanes at Balintawak, Mindanao, Bocaue, Karuhatan, and Tarlac toll plazas. Both northbound and southbound lanes at Meycauayan and San Fernando also showed lighter traffic flow.
Widespread Light Traffic Across NLEx and SCTEx
The corporation further reported that all other parts of the NLEx-Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) and NLEx Connector, including their toll plazas and interchanges, experienced light traffic conditions. This marks a significant improvement compared to the previous hours of heavy congestion caused by the habagat rains.
Previous Road Closures and Current Status
On Monday evening at 6:50 p.m., some sections of the expressway were impassable to all vehicles. These included Balintawak Cloverleaf southbound, Valenzuela Interchange in both directions under the bridge, and the Paso de Blas southbound entry and exit ramps. Additionally, several toll plazas such as Mindanao Entry and Meycauayan Southbound Entry were temporarily closed early Tuesday morning.
However, by 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the NLEx Corporation announced that all toll plazas and ramps on NLEx, SCTEx, and the NLEx Connector reopened to motorists, restoring full access across the expressway network.
Weather Alerts and Flood Risks
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of serious flooding in Metro Manila, Bataan, and parts of Cavite. A red rainfall warning was issued as of 8 a.m., signaling that over 30 millimeters of rain is expected within the next three hours in flood-prone areas.
Local officials urge motorists to stay alert and drive safely amid these weather conditions. The easing of the light volume of traffic on the North Luzon Expressway provides temporary relief, but vigilance remains essential.
