Local Governments Suspend Classes Due to Bad Weather
Several local government units have suspended classes on Monday, July 21, due to the ongoing bad weather. The decision affects both public and private schools as authorities prioritize safety amid heavy rains and flooding risks.
Class suspensions include face-to-face sessions from day care up to Senior High School levels. The exact areas impacted by the suspension of classes include Kibungan in Benguet and Masantol in Pampanga.
Areas with Suspended Classes
- Kibungan, Benguet: All face-to-face classes from day care to Senior High School are suspended.
- Masantol, Pampanga: Face-to-face classes across all levels in both public and private schools are halted.
Additionally, Oton National High School in Oton, Iloilo, has also canceled classes for the day. This is due to heavy rainfall and rising river levels caused by Severe Tropical Storm Crising (international name: Wipha) combined with the effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.
Weather Update and Safety Precautions
According to a recent tropical cyclone update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Crising remains outside the Philippine area of responsibility but continues to pose weather threats.
As of 8 a.m., the storm was located approximately 730 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour. It carries maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching up to 125 kilometers per hour.
Local leaders emphasize the importance of staying updated on weather alerts and following safety advisories. Residents in affected areas are urged to remain cautious, especially near rivers and low-lying zones prone to flooding.
