Local MNLF Leader Shot Dead in Zamboanga del Norte Town
PAGADIAN CITY — A local MNLF leader was fatally ambushed in Zamboanga del Norte, police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon. The Moro National Liberation Front commander was targeted in Sibuco town, raising concerns about security in the area.
According to local authorities, Asbirin Kahaluddin, a respected MNLF leader, was driving his multicab vehicle in Barangay Cusipan around 4 p.m. when two men on motorcycles intercepted him. Witnesses say the assailants immediately shot Kahaluddin in the head, resulting in his instant death.
Suspects Flee After Shooting
Following the attack, the suspects quickly fled the scene. Police launched an immediate pursuit operation based on eyewitness accounts. Major Haran Ulah, the Sibuco municipal police chief, led the manhunt but has yet to apprehend the perpetrators.

Local government information officer Efraem Roldan verified that Kahaluddin served as the commander of the MNLF in Snake Camp Nuran, Barangay Panganuran in Sibuco town. His leadership role made him a key figure in the community’s peace and security efforts.
