Lookout Order Issued Against Missing Sabungeros Suspects
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has confirmed the issuance of an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) targeting suspects linked to the missing sabungeros case. Officials reported that the lookout order aims to prevent these individuals from fleeing the country amid ongoing investigations.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed that the ILBO was issued against those identified by whistleblower Julie Patidongan as involved in the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts. “We have a lookout bulletin for all of them. It’s already there. Those mentioned by Patidongan have been issued lookout bulletins already,” Remulla said during a briefing.
Whistleblower’s Allegations and Suspects Named
Julie Patidongan, the whistleblower, made a chilling claim that all missing sabungeros were killed and buried beneath Taal Lake in Batangas. Among those she implicated were businessman Atong Ang, alleged to be the mastermind, and actress Gretchen Barreto.
Community members and officials noted the gravity of these accusations, which have intensified the search and investigation efforts. The DOJ is now moving swiftly to ensure that suspects do not evade accountability.
Suspects’ Movements and Preventive Measures
When asked if the DOJ knew whether the suspects remain in the Philippines, Remulla disclosed that at least one suspect has already left the country. However, he admitted uncertainty about whether that individual has returned.
Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon announced that a preliminary investigation into the missing sabungeros case is scheduled to begin soon. Over 60 respondents are expected to receive subpoenas by next week, signaling the intensification of legal proceedings.
Regarding the possibility of preventing suspects from leaving the country, Fadullon explained that prosecutors would carefully evaluate the need to apply for a preventive hold departure order (PHDO). “We will study if there is a basis to anticipate that any of them might leave the country, or if there is that danger, then the prosecutors handling the case can apply for a PHDO,” he said.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Interest
The missing sabungeros case has drawn significant public attention due to its mysterious circumstances and the involvement of high-profile individuals. Local leaders and community members continue to call for transparency and swift justice.
Authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth behind the disappearance and ensuring that those responsible face the full extent of the law. The lookout order is a critical step in this process, aiming to keep suspects within reach of investigators.
